The way my schedule is working I should be able to tackle this every Thursday. It is a very engaging read so far. Good job Pete. Cherie and I love this part of Georgia, so I can picture the setting pretty clearly. This is a little bit like the Hornblower series and also like a series written by a St. Simon’s writer (Eugenia Price). Here’s my take on the quesitons.

    1. What is your first impression of Fin? Karen Allen; Raiders of The Lost Ark. That’s the picture that came to mind.

    2. Of Sister Carmeline? Her character isn’t as clear to me as Sister Hilde. I almost wish she was a little more doddering and kindly.

    3. Do you think that marrying Peter will satisfy Fin’s strong temperament? No, but she does love him. So far I think they’d make a good couple, but I’m thinking she’s destined to be a part from him for a while if not for the whole series.

    4. Why do you think that Fin doubts that she would be ‘chosen’ by God? Her own parents rejected her – she doesn’t know of her own father’s feelings, but I’m sure her feeling is that he rejected her so why would a heavenly Father be any different. She was however struck by the way Whitefield preached and that admiration seemed to also be an apprehension of the Gospel. Time will tell.

    5. Do you think that Bartimeaus will be a key influence in Fin’s life? Absolutely. He’s giving her a skill that she can employ on a ship (which she has to end up on at some point). He also is teaching her how to process her grief. So far, he’s my favorite character.
